The books in this series are always a quick， entertaining read。 The story of Cruella isn’t connected to Serena Valentino’s larger arc （except for some earrings which may or may not be cursed…） and that made it much easier to read。 Cruella is perhaps one of the most difficult villains to make sympathetic， but the author tries her best， and you can definitely see how things might have gone differently。 Cruella’s mother is a piece of work。

The want for her mother’s love is what drove her into madness。 And yes， I do believe that Lady De Vil is crazy。 The love that her mother had for her wasn’t love at all but everyone can figure that out。 I liked this book quite a lot。 It made me somewhat understand why Cruella did what she did。 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Once again， I am going against popular opinion。 This story was disappointing。 But it could be because I just saw the new Disney release of the live-action movie Cruella， which I loved！！This story was slow and boring。 There were too many repeated phrases both in memories and dialogue and repeated details of her relationship with her mother。 The writing stumbled along; never creating atmosphere or attachment to the characters。 I have read all of the Villain series except the Odd Sisters。 I haven't Once again， I am going against popular opinion。 This story was disappointing。 But it could be because I just saw the new Disney release of the live-action movie Cruella， which I loved！！This story was slow and boring。 There were too many repeated phrases both in memories and dialogue and repeated details of her relationship with her mother。 The writing stumbled along; never creating atmosphere or attachment to the characters。 I have read all of the Villain series except the Odd Sisters。 I haven't loved any of them， but get sucked in by the covers and the hope the 'this one' will be better。 。。。more

First off， I have to say that I absolutely love this series。 All the books fit so nicely together into this big pictures story and connect so well。 They did a great job of planning the series out it feels like before ever writing even the first one。 I wasn't sure if I was going to like the Cruella story， or even how it would fit in since she's a more modern character while the others are more fairy tale medieval/renaissance time。 But I loved this story！ By the time I was halfway through I had a First off， I have to say that I absolutely love this series。 All the books fit so nicely together into this big pictures story and connect so well。 They did a great job of planning the series out it feels like before ever writing even the first one。 I wasn't sure if I was going to like the Cruella story， or even how it would fit in since she's a more modern character while the others are more fairy tale medieval/renaissance time。 But I loved this story！ By the time I was halfway through I had a really hard time putting it down for the night。Cruella's background is such a great one。 It's somewhat relatable for those of us who have mother issues and are daddy's girls。 It also was relatable to me personally because I do have a mother who thinks buying things is how you show love， so I totally understand how that can make a person feel unloved or lacking。 It was great the way Cruella teetered between being this great person without her mother， not caring if she pleases her mother or not but just being herself and kind to others and then in contrast to always wanting to please her mother， be like her mother， and be a nightmare to everyone and， well， evil。 This story made me feel for her and also wish I could reach into the story， pull her out， and check her into a mental rehabilitation center to get her help。 She wasn't always so terrible and she didn't have to turn into the monster she ended up being if it wasn't for her mother's selfish hold on her。If you were worried this book would match too much to the new movie there is nothing to worry about there。 This is its own individual story and offers a fresh and unique look into a possible background story for the beloved villain， Cruella De Ville。 Without giving too many spoilers I do have some questions that I hope will be answered later in the series， like what is up with her jade earrings？ They kept bugging her， pinching her， and when that happened she seemed to lose control of herself and turn into her evil self。 Her father gave them to her when she was younger and he told her the story that they were from pirate treasure and they were cursed。 I'm curious to learn more about them since that was never explained in the book。 I did notice on the cover of the next book， Cold Hearted about Lady Tremaine， she is also wearing round jade earrings。 Could they be the same？ I'm on my way to finding out as this is the next book I'm reading。 I can't stop on this series！ 。。。more

I'm working my way through this series of books about Disney villains and their back stories。 This is the second one I've read， since they really don't need to be read in any particular order。 The first one I read was about Rapunzel's "mother"， Gothel。 This one， about Cruella De Vil， is just as dark。 Both Gothel and Cruella had horrendous， toxic mothers themselves， and their upbringing （or lack thereof） helped develop them into the twisted characters we know from the movies。 Honestly， my own mo I'm working my way through this series of books about Disney villains and their back stories。 This is the second one I've read， since they really don't need to be read in any particular order。 The first one I read was about Rapunzel's "mother"， Gothel。 This one， about Cruella De Vil， is just as dark。 Both Gothel and Cruella had horrendous， toxic mothers themselves， and their upbringing （or lack thereof） helped develop them into the twisted characters we know from the movies。 Honestly， my own mother was a toxic mess。 So the next book I'm going to probably read from the series is about the Beast from Beauty and the Beast。 （I suspect his problem is daddy issues， not mommy issues）。 But I'm ready to take a little break from the dark and dreary and shockingly horrible， honestly。 The books are well written， include some of our favorite characters， whether we love them or love to hate them， and put a unique and different spin on the villains， for sure。 They are page turners， since they are new tellings of the favorite stories we already are familiar with。 But yes， definitely morbid。 。。。more

How did Cruella De Vil become the “Evil Thing” that she is？ Many parts of Cruella’s life had me feeling very sorry for her。 She had so many opportunities to make her life better， but she missed the mark too many times。 In the end， her drive to make her mother love her made her go crazy with anger and hurt。
